These are the ultimate diet hacks to keep a low-calories lifestyle, but not stress out on the daily about it. You don’t have to sacrifice foods you love in order to get results. You don’t have to maniacally count calories and eat rice cakes all day. But going the healthier route instead of the snack one (most of the time at least) will help you derive vitamins and minerals naturally.
1 Handful of Walnuts(100 g) = 1 Order of French Fries
Yes, both of these foods have fats. But they’re extremely different! Walnuts are filled with energy sustaining good fats, while French fries are oily, deep fried, and will weigh you down. No energy boost there. But ok to sub once in a while 😉
1 Glass of Multi-Fruit Smoothie = 1 Small Bottle of Coca-Cola
Weirdly enough, smoothies aren’t that great for you. Any time you juice/grind up a fruit, you’re getting rid of a lot of good-for-you enzymes and vitamins that just turn into sugars when you juice/blend them. Coco-Cola is artificial which makes it worse, and sodas are really addictive, but the two are not that far off in sugar content.
1 Low-Calorie Fitness bar = 1 Strawberry Ice Cream
Surprisingly, CLIF bars and other energy bars used before workouts are really high in carbs and sugar. So why not just eat a bar of ice cream? Neither are really great for you and fitness bars are basically candy bars, so pick your poison. Probably more chemicals in the ice cream, though.
100g of Brown Rice = 2 Viennese Waffles
Yup, you can eat 2 whole Viennese waffles and it will be the same as a 100g of brown rice. Health nuts will probably be freaking out about this. Yes, the waffles have way more sugar and less sustainable energy ingredients. And brown rice is also quite high in potassium, which is a plus.
100g of Muesli = 1 Small Pack of Chips
Chips are oily and often filled with trans fats, whereas muesli can be high as sugar, but will keep your energy chugging along. Muesli is also more conducive with yogurt, honey, and other healthful ingredients, whereas chips are good with…sour gummy worms and soda? You decide.
1/2 Pack of Rice Cakes = 3 Nuggets
You can dig into a couple of McDonald nuggets and it will be the same calories as an entire half pack of one those terrible rice cakes. While those rice cakes alone don’t have a ton of nutritional value, adding nut butter and a smashed banana would be more beneficial to your health than snacking on chicken nuggets that you’ll just end up binging on (who actually eats three?)
1 Glass of Kefir (2.5%) = 1 Medium Cappuccino
Kefir is filled with healthy bacteria that will make your stomach environment thrive, while caffeine will leave you crashing. Giving up that daily Starbucks fix can be quite hard to do, but if you don’t take any sugar with your Cappuccino, it might not be that bad for you. But don’t get too addicted to that caffeine or you’ll get dependent and suffer from headaches when you can’t drink it.
1 Apple = 1 Handful of Jelly Bears
Yes, quantitatively, this is the same amount of calories you’re ingesting. But they’re from two very different food groups. Apples are filled with pectin and other delicious, nutritious aspects, while jelly bears are just sugar that your body has a hard time processing. But don’t forget: don’t juice that apple or it will be just as sugar as the bears!
100g of Broccoli = 1 Marshmallow
Clearly the person who makes this decision didn’t have a mother who forced veggies on them as a kid. First off, we’ve never not finished an entire bag of marshmallows in one sitting, so we don’t know who’s kidding themselves with this “only one” deal. Broccoli is filled with fiber and cancer-fighting properties which will fill you up much more than a single air-filled marshmallow.
1 Boiled Chicken Breast = 1 Tasty Homemade Pancake
With this recent Netflix documentary called “What The Health” we’re learning that meat is actually much more harmful than sugar or carbs. Chicken is known to contain carcinogens and fats which lead to diabetes, so throw that “boiled chicken breast” diet philosophy out the window! A pancake topped with savory goods or fruit is much less dangerous to your well being (but eat some protein after!)
