And even though most of us spend our wholelives trying to chase down happiness, it seems to be one of the hardest aspectsof life to achieve and maintain. But what is ironic about happiness is thatthere is no big secret to being happy, or some massive life overhaul one needsto make. You can start finding more happy moments with making just a few smallsteps. Over time, after slightly adjusting your perspective and behavior inthese ways, you will begin to notice a change to how joyous you feel on a dailybasis. Be more grateful. 

If you can notappreciate what you have now, you will never be satisfied when you have more.Many people think the key to happiness is more money, more friends, or ageneral increase in any materialistic placeholder. But practicing gratitude forwhat you currently have will help you see the beauty in your life rightnow. 

Drink more water. 

Your body is abouttwo thirds water – which shows just how much hydration means to your health.Not having the required amount water cannot only have severe physicalrepercussions, it can also cause psychological side effects like stress,fatigue, and general sadness. 

Give yourself a break. 

You’re never going tobe perfect, no matter how hard you try. No one will ever be perfect, andperfect should not be the goal. If you are consumed with being the best all thetime, you are probably deserving of a reprieve from all that effort andself-criticism. Give yourself a break and a well-deserved pat on theback. 

Sleep more. 

Not getting enoughsleep can literally alter the chemical makeup of your brain. Without enoughrest per day, your brain’s ability to function will greatly diminish, and canlead to mood alterations, irritability, and depression. Getting sufficientsleep is one of the easiest but most effective ways you can start your day offmore happy.

Get more experience.

Toys and gadgets arefun for a while, but the novelty will wear off when the next gadget isreleased. If you focus more on experiences, you will make irreplaceablememories that will last in your mind’s eye for a lifetime. You can begin toform a foundation of joyous experiences that will accumulate to an overallextended, happier experience throughout your life.

Take time away from tech. 

For most of us, we walk around with our hands glued to our phones, stumbling through life with our eyes on a screen – while missing some of the most beautiful moments our existence has to offer. You may not be able to totally unplug for the day or week. But schedule a time during the day–at least 30 minutes to an hour – and go make some real interpersonal connections, or spend meaningful time with yourself.
