Ah, staying healthy. A healthy diet requires determination, good management skills, and most importantly, your desire to change. Our office jobs, morning doughnuts, evening burgers, and chocolate cravings became such a big part of our lives – we even try to trick ourselves into thinking that all those things make us happy. But fear not: we are here to help. With a few simple steps you will be able to tweak your daily diet and feel so much better! You can trust us on this one.
1. Let breakfast become your best friend.
And no, please let go of that doughnut. A good healthy breakfast will set you up for the rest of your day. Eating a decent morning meal will also help you to not overeat during your lunch. Listen to your mothers, peeps. They know best for a reason.
2. Stop drinking calories
Oh that sweet, bubble-popping can of a chilled Coke. Glorious. But did you know that a can of Coke has 7 teaspoons of sugar in it? Wouldn’t you rather eat your calories than drink them? Try switching your daily soda routine with water. Another tip for you if you don’t like the taste of water: add some lemon to it (or an orange, or any other fruit).
3. Rethink your snacks
There are so many snack options yet most of the time we go for the unhealthy ones. The answer to the question ‘Why?’ is fairly simple: most of the unhealthy snacks have sugar in them and it is easy to be addicted to sugar. During your next snack break think about grabbing some nuts rather than a bag of chips. Your brain will work better and you won’t feel as heavy!
4. Replace dessert with fruits
Now, don’t roll your eyes at us. We understand that last piece of cheesecake is calling your name. We know how it feels. But how about some grapes? Or maybe a few mandarins? Fruits will not only boost your mood (and your metabolism) they will also make you feel like the healthiest person alive. And that is a great feeling.
5. Rationalize your portions
After we consume food it takes about 20 minutes for our bodies not to feel hungry any more. Those minutes are a long time that trick us into going in for a second serving when in reality – we don’t really need it. While eating out make sure to give your body all the time it needs before helping yourself to another spring roll. Thank us later.
6. Take a look at your side dishes options
That delicious burger doesn’t have to come with fries. In fact, most restaurants will have 4-5 other options for you to choose from. Next time, try a side salad or a fruit bowl (cut down on those dessert prices too!). Red meat will fill up your belly – a healthy side will help your metabolism. Eating like a boss!
7. Follow your eating schedule
Train your body to where you eat at a certain time every day. This will help you stay on track and really invest your time into what you are consuming. Midnight snacks can be delicious and satisfying but are not too great on your body. It is important to love yourself first.
8. Get plenty of rest
You will be amazed at how much your stress is influencing your diet. After a bad day at work or school we always reach for some ice-cream or chocolate to eat our day away. Keeping a calm attitude towards things happening around you will bring you inner peace and a better lifestyle. Enjoy a walk in the park on a beautiful day or read your favorite book. You won’t be thinking about unhealthy snacks when your beautiful life is taking place.
