Tinder is one of the most popular ways of meeting new people these days. That’s the first thing that we do when looking to meet someone new outside of our friend group is install Tinder on your phone. It’s also an app we use when we’re in a new city and looking for people to meet and fun to have. But while swiping photos left and right is addictive, actually thinking of a good opening question once you match with someone isn’t that easy. So here are a few interesting questions you might want to use, they’re bound to start a conversation way better than the usual “how you doing?”.
1. “So do you think Carol Baskin killed her husband?”
Everyone and their mother has watched Tiger King on Netflix, so it’s a safe bet that whoever you’ve matched on Tinder with has watched it too. So why not start a conversation with figuring out what they think about Carol Baskin. Did she kill her husband? Do they think she didn’t? As far as openers go we think this one is a stellar one.
2. “Would you go to Mars if Elon Musk said you could?”
Quite an existential question to ask, don’t you think? A great way to start talking about space, our planet, the environment, how much damage we’ve done to this planet and is it reversible or should we just jump ship and go to a different planet. Plus it’ll clear things up on their opinion of Elon Musk. All these are things you’d want to know about your potential date.
3. “What was the first poster you hung up on your wall?”
Asking someone what’s their favourite band or actor/actress is a bit boring, isn’t it? Plus, everyone’s favourite changed throughout the years. However, asking about the first poster they’ve put on their wall will open up a window into a person’s childhood and who was their idol.
4. “So how’s your 2020 New Year’s resolution going?”
Let’s be real, this year nobody’s resolutions are going well. Unless you’re some sort of superhuman mutant. So lets all joke about this and share our failures on Tinder, because we’re all struggling this year and that’s the truth.
5. “Wha’s your most played song on Spotify?”
The most played song will tell you way more about a person, who they are and how they’re doing than their favourite album or band. It’s a clear sign as to what they feel like most of the time because the song we play the most is directly correlated with our mood, our goals and what we are like most of the time.
6. “If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would spend money on?”
This is a fun one, cause you get to see what the person thinks like. Do they immediately plan for the future and invest, buy property, donate to charity? Or are they more into planning trips, helping out their family? Or maybe they’re just honest and they’ll tell you that they’d go to a bar and treat everyone with shots.
7. “Top 5 movies you’ve ever seen?”
This is a great way to find out about a person’s interests and personality. You can see if those movies have a common thread or are they very different. Are they all comedies or dramas? Do they have the same actor in them? Do they prefer a certain genre or director?
8. “Favourtie travel destination?”
This can be about a place they’ve already been to and loved it or a place they’re still dreaming of going to. Either way, it’s fun to talk about travelling, what places fascinate us, what are the most memorable bits from past journeys and things we most look forward to in the future one.
9. “Who were you in high school?”
Were they popular in high school? Who did they hang out with? Perhaps they wanted to be a cheerleader but never made it? Were they one of the jocks? One of the drama kids? Or perhaps they were in the marching band? And how have they changed since then?
10. “What’s the last thing you cooked?”
Cooking is definitely a good skill to have in 2020, so find out if the person you matched with cooks. And what do they actually consider cooking? Because some people can make soup and that’s fair, some think sandwich making is art, and occasionally you’ll stumble upon the ones who say stuff like “I made cereal for breakfast”.
