Watermelon has got to be the most summary fruit ever. It’s yummy and sweet, and great at satisfying both thirst and hunger. It’s also full of vitamins. So what could be better than a cold, juicy slice of watermelon on a hot summer’s day? Well we’ve got a couple of cool ideas that will take a watermelon to a whole new level.
1. Watermelon Appetizer
Cut the watermelon into cylindrical shapes with a cookie cutter or a small glass. Take the inside out with a teaspoon and pipe cream cheese into it. Garnish with a thin cucumber slice and a delicious summer appetizer is ready.
2. Watermelon Caprese
Normally this delicious Italian salad consists of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil leaves. But if you switch the tomato slices for watermelon, you’ll get a surprisingly fresh tasting salad that’s even more delicious than the original.
3. Watermelon Tea
This is so easy you’ll be surprised you haven’t thought of this yourself. Just take some watermelon, blend until smooth. Sieve if you want. Add green tea to the watermelon slush/juice and you’ve got yourself a refreshing drink. You can also add some mint leaves and a lime wedge for garnish.
4. Watermelon Salad
Watermelon goes surprisingly well with cheese. Just take pretty much equal portions of watermelon and feta cheese, cut into cubes, add some sliced purple onions, drizzle with olive oil and add a pinch of black pepper. This is sure to become your new favorite summer salad.
5. Watermelon Aguas Fresca
This popular mexican drink is even better at quenching thirst than ice tea. All you need for this is watermelon, water, some honey for sweetness, lime juice and a full lime cut into slices. Just blend everything together, and put in the fridge to chill. Add ice and mint when serving.
6. Watermelon Kebab
Did you know that you can make grilled fruit kebabs? Well you can! All you have to do is put some watermelon and peaches on a kebab stick and grill them for 2 minutes. However, the secret to making the best fruit kebab is in the special syrup you can make. For the syrup you need to mix together some honey, lime juice, a pinch of vanilla and a pinch of salt. Put this syrup on your fruit kebabs after they’re done grilling – you’ll love it.
7. Watermelon Pie
And we don’t mean pie with some watermelon on top. Baking pies is so yesterday. Try making a fresh, no-bake watermelon pie this summer. It’ll look just as pretty, and taste delicious, but you’ll avoid eating a ton of extra calories. Just take a seedless watermelon, cut a big circle out, cover with yoghurt and decorate with nuts and berries. That’s it! Making a pie has never been quicker. And this dessert is completely guilt free.
8. Watermelon Cupcakes
Cut watermelon into round, cupcake-like shapes. Take some greek yogurt and honey and whip it together. Pipe the yogurt/honey cream onto the watermelon and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Dust with some sprinkles before serving.
9. Watermelon Smoothie
All you need to make this delicious smoothie is some frozen seedless watermelon slices, coconut water, honey and lime juice. Blend everything together and you’ve got yourself a yummy cold smoothie. If you don’t have time to freeze the watermelon, just add some ice. However, freezing the watermelon makes this smoothie thicker and less diluted.
10. Watermelon Gummies
Who doesn’t like gummy bears? But those are actually full of sugar and aren’t very good for you. You can actually make gummies using gelatin, watermelon juice, honey and lime juice – and those will be even more delicious, but not at all bad for you.
